Can Pond Scum Save Us?

For decades, scientists have been trying to harness algae to make fuel. Could this possibly be a viable alternative to traditional petroleum-based fuel?

These algae grow rapidly, and they grow everywhere. Like other plants, algae use the energy from the sun to create sugars, which they live off of. Some of them contain a high amount of fatty molecules, similar to vegetable oils, that can be converted into biodiesel. Some algae contain 50% oil.

Compared to corn, algae can generate up to 50 X the amount of oil per acre.

A key factor here is: algae fuel can be transported to gas stations using our existing infrastructure.

Investment dollars are already flowing heavily in this direction...stay tuned as the story unfolds!
