The sight of a senior picking through the garbage looking for food isn't anyone's idea of an inspiring story to come.
But stay with it: 77 year old Gerard Daechsel in Canada isn't poor, but chooses to live as a scavenger for life's necessities.
He made a conscious choice to reuse and recycle what others throw away, and literally buys NOTHING new. The last thing he remembers buying is a pair of boots in 1961.
"We should just do without what we don't find, and then try to imagine uses for all the stuff that we do find." he says.
Not such a disturbing tale at all upon closer inspection...
