Young Detroiters Harvesting Creativity

At the City Mission Academy in Detroit, a school teacher is educating the kids about urban farming.

They're learning about gardening, nutrition, nature, biology - and gaining character and confidence along the way.

"Asparagus takes three years before you can harvest, so they're learning that there's patience. It's not the immediate gratification." says Amy McIntyre.

The food that the kids grow is even sold to local restaurants.

The kids love it! Some are starting gardens at home as a result - hopefully the first of many in a lifetime of growing food at home.

Shouldn't this be part of the curriculum at all schools?
