Sensible, Self Sufficient and Almost Free!

This creative fellow shows us how he is constructing a 3-season house for about $100 in materials.

He estimates this structure may last about 20-30 years.

He's using black locust wood that he has in abundant supply in the Northeast US, and an old interstate highway billboard is his roof! What fitting symbolism: we can now use old advertising materials for shelter...

He plans to catch rainwater, have his shower and sink drain right into the greenhouse, and make a nice queen size bed for a few dollars out of 8 straw bales.

"I don't see any reason why anyone out there can't do this themselves if they have access to good cedar, black locust or some sort of rot resistant wood. The interstates are filled with these billboards -- figure out how you can get some for yourself ad build a structure for the cost of a few days rent in an urban center."

And see the woodshed he built for 75 cents!
