Farm To School Program in Denver
Teaching Kids To Grow Food
The Denver Green School, a sustainability based elementary and middle school, has the first farm to cafeteria program in the state of Colorado.
They teamed up with Sprout City Farms, an organization on a mission to create urban farms on underutilized land.
What used to be a barren piece of land is now a fertile food producing urban farm for the school, 200 feet from the cafeteria.
Kids who grow their vegetables are much more likely to eat their vegetables. As 6th grader Ramon says: "It's not just junk food like we usually eat-- it's different, it's better for us."
Hopefully this model can be replicated all over the country as awareness is raised about success stories like this.
