Message In The Bottles

The dream was to build a boat that can cross the ocean made with recycled materials.

In March 2010, The Plastiki sailed on a voyage from San Fransisco, arriving in Sydney, Australia 4 months later.

It is made from 12,500 bottles and other recycled PET plastic and waste products reclaimed from Waste Management in San Fransisco. The 60-foot (18 m) catamaran was built using cradle to cradle design philosophies and features many renewable energy systems, including solar panels, wind and trailing propeller turbines, and bicycle generators.

After reading a report about all the plastic trash in our oceans, (6.4 million tons of plastic per year according to this video) eco-adventurer and youngest heir to the Rothchild banking fortune, David De Rothchild began a mission to raise awareness about the catastrophe of single use plastics.

The Plastiki is a "sustainable floating station" with sails made of recycled plastic and even a garden on board.

What if all multi-billionaires could be like this one?
