Stained, Torn, Dirty, Unusable-But Not Garbage

Here is a great way to get rid of clothing and all kinds of other textiles that are not in good enough condition to donate.

Almost 90% of used textiles get thrown in the garbage just because people don't know that there is a way to recycle them. SMART is an organization that has made it easy for everyone in the USA to see with a simple click where exactly they can drop this off in a place near their home. They have donation points everywhere.

10-12 tons of textiles per year are recycled through SMART, which stands for Secondary Materials And Recycled Textiles. So far they claim to have diverted 2.5 billion tons from the waste stream.

Rugs, carpet, stuffed toys, clothing, linen, sheets, belts, purses and even a single shoe can be recycled!

"What we are trying to do is educate the public about textile recycling says Jackie King, Executive Director. "Most people don't know that most of the items in their home that are clothing or any kind of textile can be recycled and our goal is to educate them about that so that these items are not thrown away."
